Heard is designed to help couples and close relationships resolve conflict with empathy and understanding. To keep the platform safe and effective for everyone, you agree to follow this Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) when using the Heard application and web service (the “Service”). Violation of this AUP may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent account termination.
1.Intended Use
Heard is intended for:
- Resolving disagreements between partners, roommates, family members, and close friends
- Reflecting on communication patterns in relationships
- Processing conflict with the help of an AI mediator
Heard is not intended for:
- Replacing licensed therapy or professional mental health treatment
- Generating content for legal proceedings or evidence
- Settling disputes involving financial, legal, or contractual obligations
- Entertainment, pranking, or deliberately generating inflammatory AI content
- Any purpose other than genuine conflict resolution between real parties
2.Prohibited Content
You may not submit content that:
2.1 Threatens or Promotes Violence
Content that threatens, incites, or promotes violence against any person, including your partner. This includes direct threats (“I will hurt you”), indirect threats (“you'll regret this”), and encouraging others to commit violence.
2.2 Contains Abuse or Harassment
Content intended to abuse, harass, stalk, intimidate, or bully another person. Heard is a mediation tool, not a weapon. Submitting your partner's real or fabricated statements in order to humiliate them, manipulate them, or weaponize the AI's output against them is a violation.
2.3 Involves Minors
Any content involving, referencing, or directed at minors (under 18) in the context of romantic or sexual relationships. Heard is for adults only.
2.4 Contains Illegal Content
Content that promotes, facilitates, or constitutes illegal activity under applicable law, including but not limited to drug trafficking, fraud, money laundering, human trafficking, and child exploitation.
2.5 Infringes Rights
Content that infringes the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any third party. Do not submit someone else's private communications (texts, emails, letters) without their knowledge or consent.
2.6 Is Fraudulent or Deceptive
Content submitted with the intent to manipulate the AI system, generate misleading outputs, or fabricate arguments for purposes other than genuine conflict resolution. This includes:
- Submitting fictional arguments to test, exploit, or reverse-engineer the AI
- Creating fake accounts to pose as a partner
- Submitting arguments on behalf of people who have not consented
2.7 Contains Spam or Commercial Content
Using the Service to send unsolicited communications, advertise products or services, or generate content for commercial purposes.

3.3 Weaponization of AI Output
You may not:
- Use AI-generated resolutions, follow-up questions, or insights to manipulate, coerce, or psychologically harm your partner
- Share resolution content in contexts designed to humiliate or publicly shame your partner (sharing is designed for mutual understanding, not revenge)
- Present AI-generated content as professional advice (therapeutic, legal, medical) to any person
- Use AI outputs in legal proceedings as evidence or expert opinion
3.4 Safety System Circumvention
You may not:
- Attempt to bypass, circumvent, or defeat the safety screening system
- Rephrase or encode harmful content to avoid safety detection
- Repeatedly submit flagged content in modified form
- Report false safety concerns about another user's content
4.Partner Consent
Heard works best when both partners participate voluntarily. You agree that:
- You will not coerce, pressure, or force your partner to use the Service
- Your partner's participation must be voluntary and informed
- You will not submit content on behalf of your partner without their knowledge
- If your partner asks to stop using Heard, you will respect that decision
- You will not use Heard as a tool of control in your relationship
5.Reporting Violations
If you believe another user is violating this AUP, you can:
- Use the in-app Report function (available on any argument or user profile)
- Email trust@heardapp.co with details
- Contact support@heardapp.co
We review all reports and take action as described in Section 6. Reports are confidential — the reported user will not be told who reported them.
6.Enforcement
6.1 Actions We May Take
Depending on the severity and nature of the violation, we may:
- Issue a warning
- Remove or restrict access to specific content
- Temporarily suspend your account
- Permanently terminate your account
- Report the activity to law enforcement (in cases involving threats of imminent harm, child exploitation, or other criminal activity)
- Restrict your ability to create new accounts
6.2 Appeal
If you believe enforcement action was taken in error, you may appeal by emailing trust@heardapp.co within 14 days of the action. Appeals are reviewed by a different team member than the one who made the original decision. We will respond within 14 days.
7.Changes to This Policy
We may update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email and in-app notification. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
